Early Life and Background
Giuseppe Fiorelli was born on January 8, 1823, in the town of Naples, Italy, a region rich in history and archaeological significance. Fiorelli grew up in an environment that was close to some of the most important archaeological sites in the world, including the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which had been partially uncovered after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.
Fiorelli studied at the University of Naples and developed a keen interest in archaeology. His academic background and early exposure to the ruins of Pompeii would later influence his groundbreaking approach to excavation and preservation. He became a professor of archaeology at the University of Naples, and it was through this position that he began to shape the future of archaeological practice in Italy. shutdown123
